Whenever I meet new people, I always introduce myself first then I let them know that I have a hearing loss. Usually I explain this hearing loss by saying something along the lines of "Pardon me; I have a hearing loss in both ears. I wear hearing aids but it doesn't mean that I can hear you perfectly. If I keep saying 'what' or 'pardon', I just have trouble hearing things!"

When I was born I had a hearing problem. We didn't find out until first grade that there was fluid blocking my hearing, so the doctor said I had to get a tube in my ear canal. The first time it didn't work so I went for another. After five surgeries on the same ear the doctor recommended that it might be a problem inside my inner ear, so they said I should wait until I am eighteen to get a different kind of surgery. That is how I explain my hearing loss.
